• Hamilton in Ferrari

    From Yazoo@yazoo@myself.com to rec.autos.sport.f1 on Friday, January 24, 2025 14:36:38

I've been Hamilton's supporter since he joined F1.
On the other side I never liked Ferrari much.
So, this is a bit strange situation for me. I like him, but red car is
    not my favorite.
How to deal with this? Any thoughts?

HATES Ferrari. He's said he's cheering for McLaren this year but doesn't

I have mild preferences in the same directions, but no really strong
fannish feelings. So it's easy for me to wish Hamilton well, and if as
a result Ferrari beats Red Bull that's just fine.

I feel the same but, as I mentioned in another post Ferrari seems... more likeable since Fred
Vasseur stamped his mark on the team. I Like Fred (he's self-effacing, something almost unheard of
in a Ferrari team principle) and he's fundamentally changed the team IMO.

I’ve been a Hamilton fan ever since I watched him trounce the opposition in an event at the Rye House kart track when he was about 13. I would love to
see him win that eighth title and I don’t much care what car he does it in.

Sadly, I don’t think this very likely.

My problems with Ferrari are more historical, since they were rivals
to all my favorite drivers and teams, since seventies when I started
to follow F1, as a kid in elementary school.
I liked Fittipaldi, Hunt, Lauda, Hakkinen, Senna, Raikkonen (all
during their tenures with McLaren), Jones, Regazzoni, Reutemann, Keke
Rosberg, Mansell, Senna (again), Coultard, Hill (during their tenures
    with Williams).

As you can see some of them were driving for Ferrari as well, but I
liked them more in Mclaren or Williams.

So, Ferrari was somewhat of enemy, because of their success during the
    years. :)

I generally have never really followed the off-season news and gossip but

Likewise. I have been watching F1 for the thick end of 30 years and there wasn't a single Ferrari team boss that was likeable until Fred. He comes
across as such a sincere and nice guy and, like you say, the team has
changed for the better from his influence.

I am a Hamilton fan and will cheer him on whomever he drives for, but I
can see myself becoming a Ferrari fan, too, over the next season or two.
Will still hold a torch for Williams and McLaren, as well, though, I've

I have appreciation for teams that came from small beginnings.

McLaren may be a huge business now, but it was basically started by one talented racing driver who was also an engineer.

    Ditto, Brabham...

...Tyrell (not so much about the "talented racing driver" part)...

...and my favourite of all: Team Lotus.

Started by one guy in a shed to build a racing car for himself.

    Yup.

For all that talent that he obviously had, he out-and-out cheated to win.

Same with Prost in Japan taking out Senna. and then the FISA (i.e. its
French president, Balestre) making up on the spot that Senna hadn't
properly completed the course to hand Prost the WDC.
