• Dark Side of the Moon bootlegs on streaming services

    From eichlertwothedigitnotspelled@eichlertwothedigitnotspelled@comcast.net (Bice) to alt.music.pink-floyd on Monday, December 19, 2022 16:40:33

Since there's been some activity in this group recently, I figured I'd
mention that Pink Floyd recently released a bunch of bootleg
recordings from the 1972 Dark Side of the Moon tour to streaming
services. I checked Spotify and as of today (Dec 19, 2022) they have
18 concerts and a small collection of studio "alternate tracks" up.

Keep in mind that these are bootleg recordings. I listened to a
couple of them and sound quality varies from fairly decent to pretty
bad. If you're expecting professionally recorded concerts, you'll be disappointed. But if you can deal with bootleg level sound quality,
    there's some interesting stuff there.

Apparently the band did something similar back in 2021, but the
content didn't stay up long. From what I've read, it has something to
do with avoiding losing copyright on the material if it hasn't been
officially released after 50 years. Putting it up on a streaming
service for a couple weeks counts as an official release, so they
    retain copyright.

Apparently they've pulled them again. All I found was various bootleg compilations of tracks from remastered official releases. No live
shows or boots that I can find.

That's odd - I'm still seeing them up on Spotify. In fact, I'm
listening to the Chicago 4/28/72 show right now.

At any rate, you're not missing a lot. The sound quality on most of
these recordings is pretty atrocious, and it's largely the same set
list for show after show (all of Dark Side, followed by some mix of
One of These Days, Careful With That Axe Eugene, and/or Echoes). The
encore varies from show to show - usually Set the Controls for the
Heart of the Sun, but there are a couple with Childhood's End, at
least one Saucerful of Secrets and a couple with a generic blues jam
    as the encore.

I installed Spotify but they only have legit albums and some bootleg
"mix tape" cds but all those tracks are from the albums as well.

Maybe it's only available through their web site. I'm logged in via
web browser to open.spotify.com, and when I look at the full Pink
Floyd catalog the albums are listed in roughly reverse chronological
order as you go down the page. Right after Dark Side of the Moon is
the first of the live recordings, "Live at Vorst Nationaal, Brussels,
Belgium". Then there are six more live recordings, then Obscured by
Clouds, then 10 more live recordings (the last four are a four night
stand at the Rainbow Theatre in London), then the "Alternate Tracks"
release that goes along with these live shows, then Meddle and back to
    the regular albums.

Try logging in thruogh a web browser and make sure you click the link
    to see the full catalog.

Wouldn't let me in with a browser. Had to install it. I'll give it

Stumbled onto the catalog but never saw a "catalog" link. Switched
from list to album cover view and found them.

I ran the amp-f page in '99 before Nicole took it over. :) Spent way

Since there's been some activity in this group recently, I
    figured
    I'd
mention that Pink Floyd recently released a bunch of bootleg
recordings from the 1972 Dark Side of the Moon tour to streaming
services. I checked Spotify and as of today (Dec 19, 2022) they >have
18 concerts and a small collection of studio "alternate tracks"
    up.

Keep in mind that these are bootleg recordings. I listened to a
couple of them and sound quality varies from fairly decent to
    pretty
bad. If you're expecting professionally recorded concerts,
    you'll
    be
disappointed. But if you can deal with bootleg level sound
    quality,
    there's some interesting stuff there.

Apparently the band did something similar back in 2021, but the
content didn't stay up long. From what I've read, it has
    something
    to
do with avoiding losing copyright on the material if it hasn't
    been
officially released after 50 years. Putting it up on a streaming
service for a couple weeks counts as an official release, so they
    retain copyright.

Thanks Bob! Great to hear :)

Wow! Here's another one! Good luck finding what you want. There's
some pretty cool stuff there but as Bice wrote, the sound quality is
pretty poor on most of it.
