Hi all

Where to begin.

Life has been busy, I've been dealing with the loss of my mum who passed late last year and helping my dad with his efforts to de-clutter / prep my childhood home for upcoming sale. That's involved a lot of air travel and time away from home/work to help out. All of which I have been happy to do but it's also zapped any other energy I have had for hobbies.

As I write this it's increasingly likely that I'll also have some fairly significant life changes of my own in the coming months and my family may well be moving houses.

If/when this happens I expect to keep active in fsxNet and continue to run NET 1 HUB etc. as per usual but I am opting for the coming 12-18 months to simplify things for me in this regard.

So I wanted to let you know a few changes coming up and my plans for the medium term.

1) InterBBS games. I'm going to close this down for now, BRE, FH and GD. I think there is limited activity going on between just a few systems and want to reduce the systems I am running if/when a move to a new house occurs.

The InterBBS league will be shut down on Friday 11 June 2025... that's two weeks from the date I write this. I think this should be enough notice.

2) Usenet Gateway. Ditto for this service (sorry). I am going to shutter this one also and close down my Usenet news server. The gateway will also cease on Friday 11 June 2025 while the NNTP server will shutter at the end of July.

I want to reinstate this down the track, but at this stage I'm signaling it will likely be 12-18 months after the close down.

3) NET 1 + 4 HUBS my plan is to move to using an instance of Clrghouz to service these nodes. That change will take some more time for me to implement as I am time poor and likely juggling prepping a house for possible sale / moving home over the coming 6-9 months. But the goal will be to use Deon's great software to make my life easier as ZC of fsxNet.

What else..

I'm sorry for the lack of activity / service on my part over the last months. At times coming back and trying to do admin for a pile of mounting emails etc. felt too much and my energy levels where just not there.

Today I am playing catch up and adding a bunch of nodes that may (or may not) be that active since the dates they emailed me to join but let's find out.

Did you know on 8 November this year fsxNet will have been around for 10 years? That kind of does my head in :) When I set it up it was just me having fun and wanting to learn about FTN networking etc. Nick at Agoranet was always super kind/supportive with his time and knowledge (as were many others).

I've been lucky to have met many super, kind and talented people through the BBS hobby/interest we collectively share... and I'm looking forward to continuing to do that into the years ahead...

All of which to say is that I am not planning on leaving the scene or shuttering fsxNet any time soon. But I will be busy/tied up with matters of real life (sigh) as the rest of this year and into early next year unfolds.

If you're an 'old timer' or just new to the network, thanks for your interest and involvement in it. It's great the between us all we're helping to keep the BBS scene / hobby etc. alive and well in 2025... who would have thought huh? :)

Sounds like a great idea! Deon's got a very nice solution in Clrghouz, that's for sure!

Avon - you've been INSTRUMENTAL in bringing more people to BBSing that 95% of us. fsxNet is literally what got me interested in coming back...

Our lives never stop - and you better bet that all your work in BBSing is cemented in concrete and appreciated by more than you know. When I came around you were fast to help me with forgotten FTN stuffs - and your early Mystic YT videos got many new sysops online; we see you.

While we don't want fsxNet to go anywhere, don't stress too hard about life coming at you. We run what we love, while we can and you've built a CORNERSTONE of modern BBSing... yer all good, brother!!

Last - FTNs aren't my strong suite, but 2oFB has become a board that people know isn't going anywhere... depending on interest I'd be willing to help w/ InterBBS, or other, projects if needed. It takes a village, Avon - and you've been the Mayor for some time. Don't feel bad at all!

Nothing to be sorry about Paul!! If it weren't for your videos, I never would have gotten back into running a BBS, or picked Mystic as my main base!! Life comes before hobbies, and right now yours is hectic. So don't sweat the little things!! If you need any help please just ask! Like someone said, it takes a village to create a community!!
