I think you'll find that much of Australia does not have "sewers" as you know them. Where I live there are no sewers, no piped water.

The unburied power and phone lines date back to before easy burying technology was available. They have continued to maintain the poles and lines since inception as to bury them all now would incur an expense that no-one seems to want to bear.

Much of Australia's road infrastructure is rather shitty too - the country is simply too large for the meagre population to afford better stuff.

Can you drive for 250km along any major highway in Belgium and see no signs of human presence (other than the road you're travelling on)?

My remark was more along the lines of being called "suburban". :D I left Melbourne in 2010 ans haven't looked back. Lived there for 19 years. Here, you can't even drive to all state without getting wet (though the Melbourne to Devonport ferry is funded as a 400km stretch of the "national highway", meaning really good subsidies for putting your car on the ferry.

But going north or west, you can drive for _days_ at highway speeds without reaching the ocean. :)

From here, 2 hours south won't even get you to the coast (that's at least 30 minutes further). 2 hours roughly SE will get you just past the centre of Melbourne. 2 hours east and you're in the foothills below the ski resorts (another couple of hours at least to get to ski). 2 hours north will actually get you to another state (NSW) and in the middle of a featureless plain. 2 hours west and less than halfway to the western state border with South Australia. :)

Here, you can't even drive to all state without getting wet (though the Melbourne to Devonport ferry is funded as a 400km stretch of the "national highway", meaning really good subsidies for putting your car on the ferry.

But going north or west, you can drive for _days_ at highway speeds
    without
    reaching the ocean. :)

From here, 2 hours south won't even get you to the coast (that's at least
    30
minutes further).  2 hours roughly SE will get you just past the centre
    of
Melbourne.  2 hours east and you're in the foothills below the ski
    resorts
(another couple of hours at least to get to ski).  2 hours north will
    actually
get you to another state (NSW) and in the middle of a featureless plain.
    2
hours west and less than halfway to the western state border with South Australia. :)

Isn't VIC the smallest state in Australia.

Try the above measurements in QLD, or WA...

Netherlands, France, Germany, Luxembourg. 3 hours and I'm in
    England.

And what is the population of Belgium who are paying to maintain/update that infrastructure of the country?

Actually that type of road-infrastructure is a European thing. There is a network of what is called E-highways which stems from a very early EU-decision in the 1950-ies to build a European-wide network for the long-distance transport of goods. It now looks like this ...

    https://tinyurl.com/uwddsbf

By staying on the same road you can drive from Lisbon (Portugal) to Malmo (Sweden) and be treated to some of the most wonderful traffic jams in the world.

As especially Belgium is heavy burdened by these roads I'm assuming there must be some kind of a cost-sharing situation between EU-states, but I'm unaware.

8 more days and that map changes.

Untrue. A certain REC then, RC, now drove 500+Km just to have dinner
    with
a ZC and 500+ back. Still in the same EU country :)

That was a memorable event ... I remember the beer too ... :-)

I remember the food. I did not drink as I had to drive back same night...

Overload somewhere in the net, blown up transformer etc.
And in this case planned works.
(S)he could think of a backup power system, i.e. UPS, generator, sunpanels, windturbine, accumulator and dc-ac inverter etc.
It stands on how important the powerd users are.
The Intensive Care in hospitals for instance, always need continues power.
You do not want the hart-lung machine to stop unplanned etc.

I just changed from internet connection (ADSL2+ to FTTH) at januari 21,
and planned to have a second Pi machine online if necessarry, it was not.
Both lines were active at the same time, so I could easyliy change over.
If not, I could try my mobile 3G link temporarely.
So always take the right actions beforehand,
i.e. a planned shutdown, instead of just cut away the power.
It may happen right 9 times of 10, but then suddenly your disk is broken.
So at least a (tested) backup is ncessarry.

    Hi Paul!

    31 Jan 2021 19:23, from Paul Hayton -> All:

I have moved the 3:770/1 HUB from FastEcho, Allfix and BinkD across to
a combo of HPT, Htick and BinkD. I've also migrated from a Windows
    system to Linux.

    What editor are you using?
    Anyway ... congratulation!

I expect there will be a few wobbles along the way. If you spot
anything amiss please let me know.

    All looks fine!

    CU, Ricsi

Are you doing R57 daily segments?

Not as yet, but give me a few weeks and I may well be :)

None, I'll likely aim to set up GoldEd but first I'm just trying to get the echomail, netmail and file bases working as expected. :)

    Anyway ... congratulation!

    Thanks :)

    All looks fine!

Cheers... I hope that the zone gating / stripping stuff FastEcho did can now be a thing of the past for this system.

Crikey! I've been doing them for R54 since July 2018. In both DOS/Windows & Linux.

    Call when you want... whatever,

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Folks, apologies. I ran a re-toss process at 3:770/1 and it's sent out some older packets that were unintended. Apologies if I've sent out some dupes.

2665 went into my bad area, some dating back to 2020 (That was a year to remember).
The rest went into the dupe area.... not as many....

I was wondering. Caught a bunch in my dupes folder that looked like they all came from here. Didn't check the seen-bys or anything as it looked like they were all caught anyway.

It was me trying to retoss some packets in BAD that I wanted to retoss but
not realising it would deal to others too :(

I've removed them now out of BAD

Yep use that too - thanks!
