Yes windows seems more expensive for sure, however their updates are free. I love OS/2 and I am about to pull the trigger anyday now (just waiting for the machine) so once you add the annual fee of OS/2, if you run it a while it
will be the most expensive out of all OS's. It is truly the only thing that bothers me, is paying for patches and bug fixes, I know you get enhancements and such but u know...

Also I am still looking for help with an offline reader if anyone has one
they really like, but I need detailed setup instructions since whacking my
head in 2012.

Just got news from g00r00 that he put up a version of Mystic for OS/2 with
the easy stuff running...but the hard stuff is still needing a lot of work.
He doesn't know when he'll get a chance to have it go into full production
for those like myself.

of work. He doesn't know when he'll get a chance to have it go into full production for those like myself.

No, they're not free. They are supported by billions of business computers running Windows. Many seem to neglect that ArcaOS is very much a niche OS. R&D
doesn't come for free and nor does the amazingly complicated process of porting
*NIX applications over to ArcaOS.

With a subscription, you are guarenteeing (sp) support for an OS that has 1/10000th of the userbase that Windows has...

...but remember, today's Windows wouldn't exist without OS/2.

Got to play around with it for a couple of hours. Imported my system over & gave it a whirl. Messaging doesn't work on it...nor the mailer part...but it looked & acted just like my Windows/RPi version.

If someone wanted to run an OS/2 BBS on a linux box, do you think it would
be feasible to do with a virtualbox session? Does the box have to have hardware that OS/2 supports, or does virtualbox handle all of that?

Just thinking out loud for a way to make the software usable by other
methods.

Don't hold your breath. To be very honest, once they get UEFI and USB 3.0 support in, there may not be too much more to be done to ArcaOS. I don't
think that it will be possible to port ArcaOS to 64 bit due to licensing
issues with IBM and Microsoft.

But, for what -can- be done, Arca Noae and others are trying very hard to do the best they can within the rather narrow parameters they have to work
with.

Never bothered to look into it...more than thinking out loud about it. With TG/2 already running JAM bases & fully functional...will be going with that until a version of Mystic might come out for OS/2.

Not being a programmer & with my plate full with TG/2-FE 1.60-DB 4 to get running...it seems like that's all I'm doing now AND lovin' it!

Have got an issue that has been biting my behind for a while now. Have been trying to get SIO 1.60/SIO2K setup according to the dox with the software.
Have gotten SIO to give me 4 ports with a virtual modem...but it says COM1 - N/A IRQ - N/A Virtual Modem ***** for COM 1-4. That's a major battle itself. Here's how I have the CONFIG.SYS setup at SIO.SYS (COM1, INTERNET:3F8, NONE,
4, -)

This has been bugging me to death...especially since TG/2 tries to init the ports...but keeps trying over & over.

Any suggestions...that will be the biggest part of the battle to get the
whole shooting match running.

It is a known issue with Arca. Arca Noae knows about it & is working on a solution. It is part of the issue with me running a BBS with it with any DOS software. Running all OS/2 software natively doesn't give you this issue.

One way around it is to open a DOS full-screen. When you have done so...press ALT-HOME & you will get a DOS Window.

Know it's not a permanent solution...but for now...it will work.
